Cats Can't Sword Fight

Well, there really aren't too many updates with the Pollock family. Gary's had a couple of 3-4 day weekends since Christmas, so it was nice spending that extra time with him. His job is going well as usual. I'm so proud of all he does- he's the best. He still manages to come home and workout with me too- such a sweetie.

We're also discovering new hobbies together as well. Gary, being Gary, likes swords. So, we bought practice swords and are going to start training in sword fighting (there are a lot of areas around here that train). So, why the heck not. Sounds fun- and it's a workout. Always good to learn something new (too much Highlander lately??).

No, cat. Not for you. There cannot be only one kitty in the end.

They're cold steel and pretty nice- and obviously for practice. Gary's still on the hunt for a nice real sword though ("real" as in battle-ready). Of course you don't really want to ask the guy at the counter, "Can I kill anyone with that sword? I'll buy it!"  Anyway, I don't know a thing about sword fighting, but I guess it's time I learn. I think it would be fun for he and I to have an activity together like this.

Anyway, today was good and productive and I'm happy. I spent all morning in the kitchen making Mexican sushi for Gary's potluck today at work. It's pretty delicious. You use tortillas and wrap up cream cheese, fat-free refried beans, a tad bit of salsa, bell pepper and onion, and chipotle peppers (the cream cheese, chipotles and salsa are blended together). Then I made a sauce with fresh cilantro leaves, lime juice and canola oil to pour over.  Here's the recipe: Mexican Sushi. I made half with chicken and the other half without meat for the vegetarians he works with.

Since I kind of munched throughout it, I considered it my breakfast and I took a 5.5 mile walk; and it was gorgeous. I spent probably a good chunk of time just sitting on a rock or bench totally zoning out at the ripples in the water. I'm glad that ice-rainy weather is over. Good to see 70's again.

Okay, that's all!

Visiting the Park

I decided since it's been so nice outside, I'd head to a park instead of my usual Bridgeport. You know, try something new. So, I came across Todd Longshore Park, which is located closer to Canyon Country.

It's a cute little park, but with a big view of Santa Clarita.

There was a nice sandbox playground, bicycle paths, grills and picnic areas. There were a lot of families there enjoying the 78 degree weather.

I like the neat little Polaroid feature on my phone

I also took a little walk on a dirt walking/biking path. It burned me some calories since it was up and down, but it was nice. I honestly felt like I was a kid all over again exploring the foothills that once surrounded my parents' house.

It was a pretty little scenic walk. There were also some roadrunners gliding and speeding on by.

Anyway, I felt it was a good afternoon to take advantage of the warmth while it lasts.

Off to start our BBQ dinner!

Christmas and 2012

While bringing in the new year was pretty uneventful, we did have a fun Christmas in Bakersfield with  my family. We were able to see so many people, old friends, and visit family members we haven't seen in forever. It was awesome.

We also got a lot of great new gifts, and I was able to get new clothes I can wear around while my size is continuing to shrink.

For the new year, we just stayed at home together. In fact, I was so tired by midnight, I bonked out. Gary said I made the event pretty boring, but what can I say? Lol. I did 6 miles that morning around the lake, then even managed to workout at the gym for an hour that evening. Let's just say by midnight, I was completely ready to crash and rest.

We have been having so much fun though. He's been able to have vacation time during these holidays and spending time with him is amazing. We've been doing a little traveling, but mostly have been spending time in the city and enjoying the incredible 70 degree weather we have been blessed with this week. It really makes me want to hit the beach, but I know for sure it will be super cold there.  We've also been hitting the jacuzzi and meeting new neighbors which is also nice.

As for resolutions, I have a few; but I haven't made a huge deal about it all. Losing weight is a lifestyle choice, so I'm just adding on the fact I plan on making it to my goal weight this year without a problem. 2011 was pretty amazing with all the weight I lost and the feeling of being healthy and happy; so I know 2012 will be even better. I mean, starting the new year in 70-something degree weather and 75 lbs lighter? Awesome.

Anyway, time to spend another vacation day with Gary. I hope everyone has an incredible 2012!

Be sure to check out my 2 new posts on my fitness blog! I found a great tool that made a huge difference on my view of things.

Growing Up

So...time slows down, when? It has to sometime, right?   I missed posting in the month of May, where two pretty big days took place!  ...
